The role of helium in static test

Helium is mainly used to calibrate the dead volume of the sample tube, also known as helium quantitative technology. Whether the volume value of the sample tube is correct directly affects the test data of the instrument. Before there is no helium quantitative technology, instrument designers generally use the sample tube The calculation is carried out in a fixed value manner, that is, the volume value of a sample tube is entered in the software. All data calculations use this value, but due to the following reasons, there will be errors in the volume value of this sample tube and affect the final calculation:

1. The sample tubes are all made by hand, it is difficult to reach a higher production standard in terms of volume repeatability,

2. In each test, due to the difference in material and sample volume, the remaining effective volume of the sample tube will also change, so the disadvantages of the fixed volume method will also appear.

3. For the test of samples with small specific surface area, a glass packing plug needs to be installed in the sample tube. This is because the volume error of the sample tube and the volume error of the packing plug will affect the final test data. After the application of helium quantitative technology, the effective volume in the sample tube can be accurately calculated, which greatly improves the accuracy of analysis and testing. This technology is used in high-end instruments in the United States Kangta and Mike.
