As an effective packaging material, polystyrene foam plastics are widely used in our daily lives. Accompanied by the foaming plastics is a headache. Sony Corporation implemented an efficient, high-quality, easy-to-implement foam recycling program called Orange R-net. For example, 20 grams of waste polystyrene foam is processed. Its volume is approximately cubic centimeters. It is mixed with 40 grams of limonene. The foam dissolves rapidly during mixing and the volume decreases sharply (can be reduced to 1 /5 to 1/100). It is particularly important that the above process can be performed at room temperature without heating and pressurizing, usually on a dedicated collection box or on a transport vehicle. The mixture was easily sent to Sony's processing plant and re-decomposed into limonene and polystyrene. The resulting lemon olein is approximately 39.6 grams (less than half a gram of loss) and can be reused; while 20 grams of polystyrene has almost no loss, and is completely reconverted into plastic particles for recycling.
