Mechanical balance use precautions
Mechanical balances operate based on the principle of mechanical equilibrium, utilizing mechanical, optical, or other non-electrical methods to measure and determine the mass of an object. These devices are commonly used in industrial and mining enterprises, scientific research institutions, universities, and laboratories for precise measurement and analysis. They offer high accuracy and reliability, making them essential tools in various fields.
Ziquan Instruments would like to remind users of some important steps to ensure proper and accurate use of mechanical balances:
1. Before starting, check if the bubble level located behind the top beam is centered. If it's not, adjust the leveling knobs under the front feet of the balance until the bubble is in the center. This ensures the balance is perfectly horizontal.
2. Make sure the lifting lugs at both ends of the balance beam are properly hung. This prevents any accidental movement during the weighing process.
3. Confirm that the weight index disk is set to zero. This is crucial for accurate readings.
4. Turn on the balance switch and adjust the lever at the bottom of the balance so that the cursor aligns with the 0 mark. This step calibrates the balance before use.
5. After setting the zero point, estimate the mass of the container that will hold the sample. This helps in selecting the appropriate weights for the next steps.
6. Place the estimated container in the center of the left pan, and add the corresponding analytical weights to the right pan. Slowly open the balance halfway and check if the reading falls within the scale range. If it doesn't, adjust the weights accordingly. Always make changes when the balance is closed to avoid errors. Record the mass of the container after this step.
7. Once the container is placed on the left pan, close the balance and add the material. Then, open the balance again and check if the pointer is at the correct position. Remember to add or remove substances or weights only when the balance is turned off.
8. After completing the weighing, remove the item and weights from the pans. Ensure that the ring code scale returns to zero. This confirms that the balance is ready for the next use.
By following these steps carefully, users can ensure accurate and consistent results when using mechanical balances. Proper handling and regular maintenance also help prolong the life of the equipment and maintain its precision over time.
