Your Curology journey: month 1

Happy one-month anniversary of your skincare journey! By now, you might be wondering if the results you hoped for are still on the horizon. Some users are already seeing glowing, radiant skin they’ve never had before. However, if you're looking in the mirror and feeling unsure about whether anything has changed, know that you're not alone! Every day, someone in our community is celebrating their one-month Curoloversary—hooray! Building a skincare routine isn't always easy, especially when it involves adding a new step to your daily regimen. Kudos to you for sticking with it so far.

What can you expect after a month of using Curology—and what steps can you take if you're still feeling like you're stuck in "before"? Let's dive into that.

Expectations After One Month With Curology—and What to Do If You’re Still Stuck—can vary widely. Some users see noticeable improvements early on, while others might need a little more time. It's all part of the process!

Is Consistency Key to Skincare Success?

First things first: yes, consistency is crucial when it comes to skincare. However, it's also important to know when it's time to move on from a product. Some ingredients can actually worsen acne, which makes navigating the skincare world extra confusing. Even the best products for acne won't deliver instant results, so patience is key.

When starting with active ingredients, simplicity is your friend. A basic three-step routine (cleanse, treat, moisturize) paired with consistent sunscreen use will give you more predictable outcomes than trying every product under the sun. Also, it’s common to experience some side effects after a month of a new skincare routine—more on that later.

How Long Does It Take to See Results With Curology?

Some users notice results from their Curology formula quite quickly—hooray! But if you're unsure about your progress after a month, don't worry—that’s completely normal. It can be tough to tell if a product is working after just one month of consistent use, but there are signs to look out for.

If you're dealing with acne, it may take more than a month to see your breakouts subside, and you might even experience a temporary flare-up (commonly known as purging).

How do you tell the difference between purging and a breakout? Purging occurs when active ingredients temporarily cause breakouts as they work to clear your pores. On the other hand, breakouts caused by pore-clogging or irritating ingredients aren't typically part of the purging process. Since Curology formulas are dermatologist-designed to be non-clogging and non-irritating, if you're experiencing breakouts after the first month, it could be related to purging. Many users notice clearer skin around the two-month mark, so hang in there! It’s worth it.

Side Effects of Prescription-Grade Skincare

Common side effects of topical skin medications include temporary dryness, irritation, and redness. You might also feel a mild stinging sensation or a slight itch for a few minutes after applying your Custom Formula. It’s normal to still be experiencing these symptoms one month into a new acne treatment—it means your skin is adjusting! Your dermatology provider might suggest reducing application frequency to three nights a week, applying moisturizer first to slow absorption, mixing the formula with your moisturizer, or waiting 10-20 minutes after cleansing to apply the formula. Chat with your Curology provider to find what works best for you.

Track Your Skin’s Progress

One of the best ways to assess whether a skincare product is working is to track your progress with photos. That’s why sending selfies to your Curology provider during your trial is such a great idea—it’s fun to watch your progress photos evolve! Even if you're not a Curology member, taking progress photos is a fantastic way to monitor changes.

When using products with active ingredients, it’s essential to start slow and go low—introduce the ingredient gradually and in small amounts. Using it 2-3 times weekly for the first few weeks can help.

We recommend giving your skin at least a month to adapt to new products. Think of your skin as an ecosystem—it needs time to adjust and find its natural balance. When starting a new acne treatment, aim for nourishing your skin without overloading it with unnecessary products.

If you're not a Curology member yet, consider signing up for a 30-day trial. You'll consult with a medical provider to see if Curology is right for you. If it works well, we’ll send you a one-month supply of your Custom Formula with prescription-strength ingredients tailored to you. You can also add a one-month supply of our other products, like our cleanser and moisturizer, for no extra cost. Begin your journey to clearer skin today!
