BREAKING: study shows ‘silent’ COVID-19 infections more widespread than expected

Precautionary measures were taken to screen passengers for symptoms, and anyone traveling from high-risk areas such as China, Japan, or South Korea was prohibited from boarding. Initially, the voyage seemed safe, with regular health checks and sanitation protocols in place. However, by day eight, the first fever appeared, prompting immediate quarantine measures.
When the ship reached Montevideo, Uruguay, on day 14, six individuals with fevers were tested using the VivaDiag qSARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG antibody test, all of which came back negative. Despite this, Uruguay insisted on comprehensive testing before allowing the ship to dock. By day 20, using the CDC 2019-nCoV Real-Time RT-PCR Diagnostic Panel, 128 out of 217 people on board tested positive, equating to 59% of the population. Among these positives, only 16 showed mild symptoms or fever, while eight required medical evacuation. Four needed ventilation, and tragically, one passed away.
The discrepancy between the two tests used—antibody versus PCR—highlights the unreliability of certain diagnostic methods. While the PCR test detected active infections, the antibody test often failed to identify past infections accurately. This raises concerns about the accuracy of widespread antibody screenings.
The study's authors concluded that silent infections are likely much more common than previously believed, suggesting that current infection rates might be significantly underestimated.
