In traditional AM screening, it is necessary to ensure that the image does not lose dots in the brightest and darkest places. However, with the introduction of CTP, the number of screen-engraving lines for plate-making continues to increase. It becomes more and more difficult to control the gap between high-gloss dots and maintain dark tone meshes. FM screening is very important.

Requirements for testing ability

(1) Establish a characterization file for the printing press in use and maintain monitoring.

The indicators to be tested include:

● Dot increase / loss ratio

● Ink solid density (contrast with SNAP standard)

● Lab color gamut value of ink

● Characteristic file of printing machine

● Match the conditions of the printing press with digital proofing

(2) Ensure that the printing press is in good operating condition and the product quality is stable.

Find out the potential problems of the printing machine through a series of printing tests, such as:

● Is there any damage to the roller, blanket or gear?

● Does the characteristics of the printing press (field density, dot gain rate) comply with SNAP industry standards?

● Is the overprint between color and color, positive and negative sides accurate?

● In a batch of printed matter, can the ink density and dot increase be kept stable?

(3) Be clear about the tests that need to be performed during the CTP production line.

● Check whether the exposure and development of the printing plate are working properly.

● Ensure that the imaging unit is finely calibrated and reliable.

● Check if the laser intensity is stable and uniform.

● The laser light path is free of dust and dirt.

● Test whether the exposure on the whole printing plate is uniform and stable.

● Environmental temperature and humidity.

(4) To know whether the printing plate can be developed correctly, how much is affected by the strength of the chemical agent and the frequency of replacement.

● Check whether the developing tank is deep enough to ensure that the printing plate can have a suitable developing time (the faster the machine, the deeper the tank should be).

● Check whether all temperatures are stable and meet the manufacturer's technical indicators (such as preheating, drying, baking temperature and chemical temperature).

● Check if the chemical agent has clumped on the printing plate.

● Ensure that the pH and conductivity of the rinsed liquid are stable and meet the supplier's specifications.

(5) Know how to test the printing material and adjust the printing curve to achieve the best quality.

● Determination of the ratio of dot gain / loss of the CTP plate used in combination with the agent.

● According to this, the correction curve of the RIP processor is generated to realize the linearized output from the file to the printing plate.

● Conduct printing tests to determine the dot increase rate of this combination.

● Generate the characteristic curve of the printing machine and apply it in RIP to ensure the dot amplification rate required for output.

● Use a spectrophotometer to detect the dot ratio on the printing plate.

(6) The machine, materials and environment can be monitored to maintain stable quality.

● The exposure uniformity of the entire printing plate should be tested every week or when a new batch of printing plates arrives.

● Confirm the correct exposure by using color marks on each plate, and check daily for uneven laser intensity.

● Use the test version every week to check the registration of the online bending version. With this guarantee:

● Measure the ratio of dot gain / loss of the combination of CTP plate and agent used

● According to this, the correction curve of the RIP processor is generated to realize the linearized output from the file to the printing plate.

● Conduct printing tests to determine the dot increase rate of this combination.

(7) Train special technicians to perform on-site maintenance of equipment and instruments, including: CTP, processor, RIP and other equipment and related software. Since the supplier's engineers cannot be on standby at all times, it is necessary to prepare their own technicians to solve the software and hardware problems on site. Therefore, they need to arrange for them to participate in the complete training of the supplier, which is generally more expensive and needs to be listed in the cost budget.

The maintenance cost of the CTP production line is very high. Enterprises need to prepare for talents. In addition to the operation of software and hardware, they must also be familiar with various variables of materials and environments. At the same time, due to expensive industry expert consulting fees, companies also need their own talent reserves.
