Num Noms Orange Cakes #WackyBakers
The girls have been absolutely obsessed with their Num Noms lately. These colorful, collectible characters have quickly become their favorite toys, and they were thrilled when we received a pack of Series 2 Num Noms. To make things even more exciting, they decided to take on a baking challenge inspired by their beloved figures. Since they're huge fans of shows like Bake Off, this was the perfect opportunity for them to get creative.
As soon as we unpacked the Num Noms, the girls eagerly lined them up and instantly fell in love with OJ Pop, the vibrant orange character. "Let's make an orange cake that looks just like him!" they exclaimed. Using a muffin tray, we crafted perfectly shaped Num Nom cakes that resembled their favorite toy.
To prepare the batter, we gathered all the ingredients:
- 4 oz caster sugar
- 4 oz of plain flour
- 4 oz of self-raising flour
- 2 medium eggs
- 2 teaspoons of orange essence
We blended everything together and popped the tray into a medium oven. After about 15 minutes, the cakes emerged golden brown and smelling divine. While they cooled, we worked on the frosting. Mixing icing sugar, milk, and butter created a smooth, glossy glaze, which we enhanced with orange essence and food coloring. Cutting out small ears from one of the cakes and adding them to the tops gave the cakes that extra touch of authenticity.
Next, we piped intricate details using black food coloring mixed with the icing. A few green spots completed the Num Nom transformation. The final product looked adorable—exactly like OJ Pop himself!
The girls couldn’t wait to dig in, and the first bite confirmed how delicious these creations were. The tangy orange flavor paired beautifully with the sweet frosting.
