Optomec gains 3D printing production with GE and Autodesk

On December 2, 2015, well-known 3D printer manufacturer Optomec announced that it has received strategic investments from GE Ventures and Autodesk to promote Optomec in applications such as 3D printing sensors, 3D printing electronics, and 3D printing. Investment, production and deployment of proprietary solutions in the field of metals. Autodesk is participating in this investment through its Spark investment fund. It is understood that Optomec has a good record of cooperation with GE Ventures and Autodesk before this.

For many years, Optomec has been using its patented Aerosol Jet printing electronics to 3D printed antennas and sensors. According to the company, Aerosol Jet printing uses pneumatic focusing to precisely deposit nanomaterials to create fine functional circuits and embedded components without the need for masks or molds. The resulting functional electronic product has a line width or pattern characteristic of up to 10 microns.

GE Ventures invests primarily in software, advanced manufacturing, energy and healthcare, and is actually one of Optomec's first customers. As early as 2005, the company purchased an Aerosol Jet printing electronic system, and the relationship between them has been increasing since then. Recently, GE Ventures is working with Optomec on 3D sensors to print these 3D sensors directly on high-value components to improve the life cycle of the mechanical system.

As for Autodesk, as a well-known 3D design software developer, it has a deeper relationship with Optomec: Autodesk software tools have been used to generate design data to drive Optomec's 3D printer system. Through this investment, the two companies will work hard to develop software tools to achieve seamless integration of additive manufacturing hardware and software, all based on the Spark 3D printing platform.

“The goal of Spark Investment Fund is to expand additive manufacturing applications. We believe that a connection ecosystem between hardware and software is the key to stimulating innovation and collaboration.” Samir, General Manager and Vice President, Consumer and 3D Printing Technologies, Autodesk Hanna said: "We are excited to share a common vision with Optomec's overall developer of seamless integration of additive manufacturing technology into traditional production platforms to advance design and manufacturing processes."

“Optomec is pleased to welcome GE Ventures and Autodesk as strategic investors. The two companies have been actively embracing additive manufacturing and seeing it as the next generation of production technology.” Dave Ramahi, CEO of Optomec Added: "Our strategic vision is very consistent in many respects. We are very fortunate to be able to take advantage of the technical and commercial expertise of these two outstanding companies.
