What is 3D printing? 3D print restaurant food! Do you dare to eat it!

London opened a 3D printing concept restaurant called Food Ink.

This restaurant was created by the Dutch 3D printer manufacturer byFlow. Last year, byFlow introduced a 3D printer called Focus, which is capable of printing a variety of ingredients including chocolate. Food Ink is not only offering 3D printed food, but also from 3D printing technology in the restaurant, from lamps to chairs to tableware. In order to match the high-tech feeling, the design of the restaurant also uses futuristic style.

“The purpose of Food Ink is to promote the presence of 3D and other new technologies in a globally common language – to let humans experience their fun and to understand how these new technologies are rapidly changing the way people eat, create and share. And survival.” Food Ink's official website explains the purpose of the project.

The so-called "3D printed food" is mainly composed of paste-like ingredients, including hummus, chocolate mousse, pea puree, goat cheese and pizza dough. After putting these raw materials into a 3D printer, it can be set according to the program. The machine can “spit” different food shapes and patterns on the plate.

“The meat is not very convenient to 'print', food hygiene is a problem, and the taste of the food is also taken into account,” said Sasha Mather, director of public relations at Food Ink.

If you go to book, you will be asked some interesting questions: "Now you know 3D printing, but you know that you can download delicious desserts soon, can you get pizza by mail?"

If you go to consume, Food Ink. will provide 9 dishes, and the same menu is also 3D printed. If you can't find a chair to sit down, you can print one on the spot. The chairs were designed by visual artist Arthur Mamou-Mani and the FabPub company in London is responsible for cutting and assembling.

For this restaurant, Food Ink formed an international team, including architects, artists, chefs, designers, engineers, futurists and more. “It’s all for this creative idea to become a reality.”

However, Food Ink is in the form of a flash shop. The London store is the second stop in the Netherlands, and it has been lively for three days from July 25th to 27th. Next, Food Ink will go to New York, Dubai, Rome, Seoul, Paris, Singapore, Las Vegas, Toronto and other places, but will not come to China.

The only problem is that as a concept store, Food Ink is not cheap, and it costs £250 per person. Therefore, some people questioned "Why should I spend 'great money' to go to a restaurant where the tableware is made of plastic?"

“Our vision actually transcends technology itself. Without art, music, poetry, philosophy, cultural traditions, technology is meaningless. And we want to pass these experiences through technology, or to taste tomorrow today.”
