3D fitting will be spread out in the clothing store
Shanghai Heying Technology, a leading manufacturer of digital clothing equipment, is set to revolutionize the shopping experience by collaborating with fashion brands to introduce a "3D Fitting System" in dozens of retail stores. This innovative system allows consumers to try on their own 3D avatars, offering a realistic virtual fitting experience without the need to physically try on every item. The system accurately simulates how clothes will look on an individual's body, taking into account personal body curves and providing honest feedback on which items may not suit them. Additionally, it can automatically suggest outfits based on the user’s body shape, skin tone, facial features, and style preferences, creating a personalized styling guide.
According to Heying Technology, they have partnered with two global leaders in 3D fitting technology: TC2, a U.S.-based company with over 20 years of expertise in 3D human body scanning, and DNA, a Belgian firm specializing in in-store and online 3D fitting systems. TC2 has developed a comprehensive U.S. human body database, funded by the government, and their 3D measurements go beyond simple linear distances, capturing the nuances of body curves. Meanwhile, DNA has pioneered the development of interactive 3D mirrors that allow real-time virtual try-ons in physical stores, setting the standard for online 3D fitting solutions. Their platform is fully compatible with mobile devices and is considered one of the most advanced in the world for virtual fashion sales.
Zhou Yanna, director of the 3D Business Unit at Heying Technology, emphasized that their system differs from many existing 3D fitting technologies, which often rely on 2D comparisons or fixed 3D models. “Many systems are more like games,†she explained. “They let users change clothes on a model, but you can’t really see how the garment looks on your own body.†In contrast, Heying’s system, internally known as the “Fashion Advisory Store System,†offers a more accurate and practical approach to virtual fitting.
Yin Zhiyong, chairman of Heying Technology, described the system as a game-changer for consumers. It enables shoppers to try on multiple outfits using a smartphone or tablet, whether in-store or anywhere with internet access, and record the results. Imagine being able to try on 60 different pieces of clothing in just one minute, compare them instantly, and even get feedback from friends via email, WeChat, or Weibo. This 3D technology addresses the long-standing issue of online shopping—where the gap between product images and real-life fit leads to high return rates (typically 20%-25%). By allowing customers to virtually try on clothes, it eliminates the frustration of not being able to see how an item looks on them.
Moreover, the system brings added value to brands by enabling them to collect detailed consumer data, helping them offer more personalized services. This fosters a stronger emotional connection between the brand and the customer, increasing loyalty. With 3D fitting mirrors, brands can showcase their entire collection without being constrained by physical store space. As Zhou Yanna noted, “Future stores will function more as product showcases. All the brand’s seasonal collections can be displayed on the server, effectively expanding the brand’s reach. At the same time, it strengthens the integration between online and offline channels, enabling demand-driven production and reducing inventory waste.â€
