3D printing scale model helps companies sell complex production lines

As 3D printing has the ability to show higher quality details and be compatible with more colors, the construction industry has found that this new technology can be used as a powerful tool to help them create realistic 3D scale models for their design drawings.

In fact, in addition to the construction industry, companies in other industries have also experienced the advantages of using 3D printing technology to create scale models. For example, Wyma Engineering, an agricultural and agricultural processing equipment manufacturing company, recently used 3D printing technology to show customers the packaging houses and processing facilities they designed. In order to create this 3D printed facility model and bring it to a European fair, Wyma Engineering found Quickparts, an on-demand manufacturing service for 3D printing giant 3D Systems, for help.

In just a few weeks, Quickparts used 3D Systems' ProX 800 SLA Production 3D printer to create a scale model of the company's entire warehouse. According to 3DSystems, this professional-grade 3D printer can achieve or even exceed the precision of the injection molding process, and its printing speed is 4 times faster and its resolution is twice as high as other similar 3D printers. To create an accurate scale model of Wyma Engineering's fruit sorting line installed in the warehouse, the Quickparts team used Accura Xtreme, a tough, high-temperature plastic material that looks like a molded polypropylene (PP) or ABS.

Once this complex and criss-crossing fruit sorting device was printed in 3D, the production team painted a blue color on its surface to help bring out the details of each part. After the final completion, the entire model occupied an area of 2000 × 2000 mm and was said to have achieved great success at the exhibition. From the photo alone, you can immediately see the intricate details of the entire factory floor, which feels like you are looking down at the actual operation of a real warehouse.

As an agricultural equipment supplier that has been a global leader for the past four decades, Wyma Engineering is clearly considering 3D printing technology as an important tool to help them show their agricultural manufacturing processing equipment to their customers. For a warehouse with intensive packaging equipment and extremely complex assembly lines, it is difficult to fully demonstrate Wyma's product advantages simply by talking or facing a two-dimensional blueprint. But with the help of a fine-grained 3D print scale model, the company can make customers quickly and intuitively understand the entire vast array of devices.
